STABLE-SPIRIT HORSES

Stable-Spirit uses horses that have been rescued or adopted, nurtured back to health and taught that people actually can be trusted.
Their stories are great metaphors for those who have lost, and need to regain, the value of their own lives, as well as regain trust in others.

No prior knowledge of horses is necessary. The experiences have nothing to do with horsemanship or riding.
Horses make great teachers because they capture and hold attention,
rapidly break down defense barriers and provide immediate honest, nonjudgmental feedback.
Being prey animals, they are incredibly adept at using all their senses to determine the intentions of approaching animals.
This awareness is reflected back to participants providing them with opportunities to better see themselves.

Lani, Solid Black, Born 1996
Lani is one of the pregnant mares rescued from slaughter. She came from a pregnant mare urine (PMU) farm where she was kept in a small stall attached to urine collection devices, unable to move around or lay down for most of her pregancy. Once she had her babies, she was reimpregnated and her foals were likely sent off to slaughter. She was undernourished and in very poor physical condition when we got her. A month later she was well enough to give birth to healthy baby (Star) which is the first baby that won't be taken from her.

Pumpkin, Sorrel Dun, Born 1993
Pumpkin is another mare rescued from slaughter. She also came from a pregnant mare urine (PMU) farm where she was kept in a small stall attached to urine collection devices, unable to move around or lay down for most of her pregancy. Once she had her babies, she was reimpregnated and her foals were likely sent off to slaughter. She is so beautiful, it's hard to imagine that she had been so neglected and mistreated. That's history, because she's living the good life now.

Scout, Bay, Born 1999
We don't know a lot about Scout's past except that he was sold by a horse trader to a young woman who could not keep him once she got into college. He has some scars that indicate he may have gotten tangled up in barbed wire when he was young.

Barney, Palomino, Born 1994
Barney is a little guy. At only 14 hands high he qualifies as a pony. The only thing we know about Barney's past is that his last owners gave him up because their children had lost interest in him.

Patches, Sorrel Paint, Born 1993
Patches found a wonderful, stable, home after being passed around by owners who didn't fully appreciate her. Within the first year of finding her stable home, she foaled a beautiful, healthy, baby girl, Dixie.

Dixie, Sorrel Paint, Born 2003
Dixie was a welcome surprise. She definitely takes after her Mom, Patches, (above) in her markings and coloring.

Karma, Buckskin, Born May 8, 2004
Karma is the first foal to be born at Stable-Spirit. She doesn't know whether she's a horse, a dog, or a person. Her mother is Lani, one of the mares rescued from slaughter. She's lucky to be alive and her joy for life is a great example for anyone that takes their own life for granted.
